The Craft Behind Our Brass
At BrassCraft, we design and manufacture all our water stops with quality and durability in mind. There are no shortcuts or secrets, just a commitment to working hard and building with the right materials. Get the inside scoop on our brass process.
Q. How do we make a water stop?
A: We source brass rod that is certified to required specifications from a US-based brass mill. Brass rod is delivered to our plants on a regular basis.
Q. How does a brass rod become a water stop?
A: Our brass rod is bought in 16′ length rods with predetermined outside dimensions. We truck in the rod from a nearby facility with our own semi trucks. Through machining, we use preset tooling to turn, drill, and thread the brass using a precision rotary transfer machine.
Q. How do we reuse the brass?
A: As we machine the rod, we use a chip collection system to reclaim the brass scraps. The chips are washed of oil and debris, dried, and loaded into our semi trucks to take them to the mill for processing. It’s a closed loop system between BrassCraft and our brass rod supplier.
Q. How do the brass scraps move through the plant?
A: The brass chips that are recovered move through the plant using a central chip collection system that deposits the chips into a wringer for oil and debris removal, and finally through a chute that loads our semi trucks with chips to take back to the brass mill.
Q. How much brass do we reuse?
A: We reuse over 70% of the brass that comes into the facility. The remainder goes into our product.
