Behind the Scenes: Q & A

Buffoli Machine Highlights

How stops are made in Lancaster, Texas

What are Buffoli machines?

Buffoli machines are high-precision, top-of-the-line rotary transfer machines.  Some of the machines set up in our plant have up to 12 stations inside, operating independently and simultaneously.  Their precision is critical to the assembly and installation processes required in the field.

What types of products are manufactured using Buffoli machines?

We manufacture valve bodies and most of the components required for valve assembly.

How do Buffoli machines form the stop body?

Machining is a subtractive process. It removes material to achieve the desired shape. We start with predetermined shapes, then bore the internal body and thread valve body using custom tooling, removing the excess material.

How quickly does a Buffoli machine manufacture a stop body?

The typical cycle time is about 6 seconds.

How many machines do we have, and what is the typical run time?

We operate nine valve machines, two fitting machines, and four nut machines, all running two shifts per day.
