An explanation of the legislation
In official terms, this legislation prohibits the sale of plumbing fixtures with a wetted surface containing more than a weighted average of .25% lead. Basically, the law virtually eliminates the lead content of pipes, pipe fittings or plumbing fittings and fixtures intended to convey or dispense water for drinking or cooking. The law is effective January 1, 2010 in California and Vermont.
